Technology Educators: Are you looking for a new, innovative, and cost-effective way to introduce students to welding / materials joining technology?
The Weld-Ed National Center is proud to offer a professional development opportunity for educators to be held this summer.
Introduction to Materials Joining is a course that was developed through a grant from the National Science Foundation, and is designed to introduce students to various welding / materials joining concepts. The program employs state-of-the-art virtual reality simulations and graphics to teach a full spectrum of basic welding processes, analyses, approaches, techniques and problem solving methodologies. The course concepts can be utilized as part of an existing welding / materials joining program, a stand alone class in a classroom or computer lab, a blend of both, or even incorporated into another science / technology related course. In Ohio, it is recognized as an elective course in the
Project Lead the Way (PLTW) program. The course was designed to be delivered in a high school, technical school, or community college environment. It is designed as a two week course; however, it can also be taken in two separate one-week sessions.
Major topics included in the course include: Arc welding, Non-arc welding, Physics of welding, Heat flow, Metallurgy background, Metallurgy in welding, Design, Testing, and Safety.
