Fall Conference 2007

275 teachers, administrators and business and industry representatives attended the 2007 Project Lead the Way Fall Conference this year.  Highlights of the conference, held at Case Western Reserve University’s Thwing Center in Cleveland, included PLTW student exhibits and presentations, speakers from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers Education Foundation, BioOhio, the Ohio Board of Regents and the Nord Family Foundation, and tours of Case Western Reserve’s engineering labs.  Conference attendees gave the day high marks, noting especially the information content of the speeches given, the tours and the lunchtime presentations by PLTW students from schools across the state.  The presenters, which included even middle school students who took part in STEPS camps as a week-long introduction to the Gateway to Technology middle school component of PLTW, impressed the audience with their knowledge of design and modeling programs,    Comments from attendees included “I can’t believe those are high school students,” and “Wow, these kids really bring to light how valuable PLTW is.”

Kathy Sommers, state leader for PLTW in the state of Ohio, said of this year’s conference “It was the perfect opportunity to blend members of the business community in with educators and students to truly show what PLTW Ohio is accomplishing in this state.
